Pregnancy Care in Lucknow: A Month-by-Month Guide to Check-ups
1 September 2026 · 6 min read

Why regular antenatal care matters
Most pregnancies are healthy, but the ones that run into trouble almost always give early clues — a rising blood pressure, a slower-than-expected growth, a change in movement. Regular antenatal check-ups exist to catch those clues while there is still time to act calmly rather than urgently.
The goal of antenatal care is simple: a healthy mother and a healthy baby, with as few surprises as possible on the day of delivery. That comes from a steady rhythm of visits, the right tests at the right time, and a doctor who knows your history well enough to notice when something is off.
When to book your first visit
Book as soon as a home test is positive, ideally in the first 6–8 weeks. The first visit confirms the pregnancy, dates it accurately, and picks up anything — anaemia, thyroid problems, high blood sugar — that is easier to manage early.
If you have a medical condition such as diabetes, high blood pressure, a thyroid disorder, or a difficult previous pregnancy, come even sooner. Early planning is the whole of high-risk care.
A month-by-month rhythm of check-ups
The usual schedule is monthly visits up to 28 weeks, then every two weeks up to 36 weeks, then weekly until delivery. This tightens as the due date approaches because that is when problems like pre-eclampsia and growth issues tend to appear.
- First trimester: confirmation, dating scan, baseline blood tests, folic acid and iron.
- Second trimester: the anomaly scan (18–22 weeks), blood pressure and weight tracking, tetanus vaccination.
- Third trimester: growth scans, position checks, and a clear plan for delivery.
Warning signs — call the clinic the same day
Some symptoms should never wait for the next scheduled visit. If any of the below happen, call the clinic straight away.
- Bleeding or fluid leaking from the vagina.
- Severe or constant headache, blurred vision, or swelling of the face and hands.
- A noticeable drop in the baby's movements.
- High fever, severe abdominal pain, or persistent vomiting.
